The upside of a quiet NYE.
Our visit to the Grove got waylaid by a round of the flu circling the city. We took shelter at the [redacted] hotel in [redacted], telling no one but my family where we are. The hiding is a nice feeling. Leisurely meals. Afternoon movies. A literal ton of books + bookstores + journals + reflection. As everyone prepares their year end lists, I’d like to offer one on my top [read: dumbest] moments of the decade with my photo mentor and friend Jenny Jimenez. This Christmas has literally been the best yet. There’s yet to be a gift exchanged [or, uh, wrapped] but it feels like more magic is in the air than any years previous. I always thought I would believe less as I grew older, not more. tonight was all about light.
we drove to candy cane lane. miles sat on the front bench seat, squeezed between us as we wove through the neighborhood staring at glowing yards.
we watched history as the moon disappeared, even if it meant midnight bedtimes. our little man will be 94 the next time there is a solstice lunar eclipse.
miles learned about bokeh, apertures, and pupils.

After an exceptionally good shoot, I get about 7-8 minutes of feeling satisfied and happy with my work. Then the uncomfortable push of seeking something more returns.
My goal is to only be grateful for that discomfort.

Saw these dudes at Conor Byrne a few weeks back and in the ONE SONG I saw them play I was captivated. That never happens! Not anymore, at least. Been meaning to hear your opinion on them, didn’t find any hits when I searched SOTS.
