I have never worked so hard in my life as I have in the past 25 days. This year? Not fucking around.

I have had some good birthday parties in this lifetime. I have also had some terrible birthdays - oh, the pain of a failed get together in adolescence, may I never be 13 again. But. Let’s focus on the positive here. I mean, my 27th birthday had essentially all the goodness I could ever ask for.
Or, you know, that one time I got engaged?
Even last year, 30 wasn’t so scary...
Last night I finally fell asleep, exhausted, to the sound of friends talking in 4 am voices outside the door - those voices without concept of the hour, of their impending departure, of proximity versus distance. There’s been a lot of sacrifice to keep pace with the amount work and celebration around me. I am so, so, grateful to have been present for all of it.

My phone has an alarm set for 11:11 am each day. A hybrid of superstition & new agey affirmation, I take that time to focus on what I want to accomplish for the day & what I’m grateful for. Today, on the first 11th of ‘11, at 11:11, mega talented photog Kyle Johnson took our photo. Alarm & shutter at the same moment, just by coincidence. This year is some crazy shit.
